When I told my friend I was going to make melonpan, he gave me the recipe in the last post. Of course, that's NOT real melonpan. xD So I ended up making the real thing to give my family.
There are two reasons I decided to make this recipe. One, because I found the recipe on a YouTube channel called Cooking with Dog, and it looked simple enough to try. Also, when I showed my mother, who has been working like a dog in the past month, she told me she wanted to try it, so I decided to make it for her. Originally, it was going to be a surprise, but she found out anyway. And I even made sure she took a piece for lunch, because I know she gets so busy that she skips her lunch sometimes.
Gathering ingredients was easy. Except the dry milk powder used in the video. I had to buy a large box, for 1/4 tbs. Let's just say I'll be able to make lots of melonpan in the coming future. The yeast used in the recipe wasn't hard to find either, as I made bread back in November for thanksgiving. Other than that, I had the rest of the ingredients waiting at home.
The recipe used in Cooking with Dog was a direct Japanese recipe translated to English. The only problem was the measurements were still Japanese. So I had to estimate all of my measurements. Which resulted in sticky cookie dough, and bread dough that took much longer to make due to an unknown amount of flour. And when I threw the bread in the microwave to ferment, it baked slightly, so I could not use it.
When these two pieces failed me, I wondered what I could do. I googled another recipe, this time with translated measurements, and the results were much better. : ) There were a few things I tweaked from the original, like I didn't add as much flour because my bread dough was barely able to hold what it already had, and I forgot to add the vanilla extract to the cookie dough. I also followed some of the instructions from the video, which turned out fine. Even with these changes, accidental or not, the result was great. Even if I ran out of cookie dough.
