Day 16- Apricot, Honey, and Pine Nut and {FAKE} Rosewater

June 18th, 2010

Well, the party season is still in session for me. It helps when so many of my friends are graduating. And they make things so much easier for me when they ask for cupcakes as gifts! My boyfriend and I can give them the same thing and it's actually quite cheap. xD

So I only had one party to attend this weekend, but I forgot to give a friend her cupcakes back when she had her party, so I let them choose which cupcakes they wanted. They chose the Apricot, Honey, and Pine Nut cupcakes (Pg. 37) and Rosewater (Pg. 34). We were going to make Lavender cupcakes, but I didn't have enough time anyway.

Before we could even make the cupcakes, we ran into some trouble. Rosewater is not sold in Wal-Mart. Trust me, we looked all over for what we needed, and I even Googled Rosewater on my phone. Luckily I found out how to make it, but even that was out of the question, although my boyfriend was really sweet and offered to buy me flowers. <3

Finding a replacement for the Rosewater was a little hard. We couldn't come up with the perfect match at first, then finally decided to go with Raspberry Crystal Lite. It was a good match in my opinion.

Returning home, we started with the Apricot cupcakes. I made the cupcake batter and put my boyfriend in charge of the topping. He really liked that I guess. When I stirred it for a bit, he said, "You're stirring my topping. :(" He's adorable like that. He also drank a raw egg thanks to my little brother. :<

After finishing the Apricot cupcakes, we made the Rosewater ones. Since they're TECHNICALLY not rosewater though, we might make them again sometime. :) But we had so much fun making them, even though the icining was SUPER SWEET. I finally made a decent icing though, and since it was really sour, I came up with honey icing. That was such a hit, everyone loved it. Too bad I didn't use it on the cupcakes I gave to my friends.

All in all, my friends were absolutely delighted to receive their cupcakes. One said her cupcakes smelled like my house (I would kind of hope so I guess) and I think the other ate all of hers by the time we picked her up for mall adventures. xD According to the one who requested the Rosewater cupcakes, she gave me 99.9% because the icing was just too sweet for her. But I'm glad she enjoyed them!

We still have lots of parties to go to, but my boyfriend wants to make my favorite type of cupcakes next. We're going to make Marbled cupcakes for this Sunday, Lavender cupcakes sometime in the coming weeks, and maybe we'll make my cupcakes before the month is up. ^^ Still working on pictures...

Holi out.

Day 9- Vanilla Buttercream

June 11th, 2010

For a party I was hosting, I told my boyfriend he had to help me make some cupcakes my uncle picked out. I also made them for my grandmother's birthday, which was the day we made them. So without haste, and a bit of a wait because I forgot to check our sugar supplies, we made the Vanilla Buttercream cupcakes from the book.

My boyfriend did sprinkles, so he went a little overboard with them sometimes, but it was fun. And we did get a little hungry while we made them, so we got some Burger King when a majority of the work was done. xD

So the cupcakes were awesome, and I'm supposed to make three different kinds for another party this Saturday, so look out for a post then. It might be a few days late like this one, only because I'm a very busy person and I don't always have access to a computer. But I should be setting up a laptop soon, which will make everything easier.

Also, pictures will be up eventually. At least wait until I figure it out.

Until then, Holi out.

Operation Cupcake Heaven: Day 1- The Suggestion

June 2nd, 2010

It was a warm summer day. My boyfriend and I were making cupcakes for his birthday, which was already two weeks ago, when he started looking through Cupcake Heaven, a book I'd picked up at Half Price Books. As he flipped through the pages looking for my favorite recipe, he couldn't help but whine as he passed all the delicious looking cupcakes. "We should make every single one of these cupcakes," he sighed, drooling over the pictures.

"We should. Let's give it a shot," I grinned. "It'll be fun!"

With that promise, an idea came to mind. Why not make every cupcake recipe and blog about it?? Thus, my blog was born! Starting from the very beginning, my boyfriend and I will make more than 60 different kinds of cupcakes and share it on this blog. And I know our families would be more than happy to test our skills. Maybe I'll even post a recipe or two.

So with that, this first post is the start of Operation Cupcake Heaven! Be sure to keep an eye out for the next post!
